medXchange was started by Dr. med. Joachim Kell in 1996 in Germany. The first versions of the medXchange products and services were operational with the Electronic Medical Records in 1998. Development was subsequently continued in Los Angeles and Zurich, Switzerland in 1999. The medXchange services and products in their current form started extensive field trials in November 2000. Since November 2000, software development has focussed on specialized electronic medical records and applications (i.e. Optical, Dental, Allergies, Orthopedic, Cardiology, and Nephrology).

Currently, the medXchange system and services are operational and used in Switzerland in extensive field tests.
